Job Description

Position Description:
The Senior Accountant – U.S. and Canadian Payroll, applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports. Also provides supervision and training to all members in the group. Oversees all aspects of processing, reporting and regulatory compliance for U.S. and Canadian payrolls. Direct communications with the Comptroller on various tasks and discrepancies.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversees and reviews the U.S. and Canadian biweekly and annuity payrolls.
  • Coordinates W-2 and Canadian T4 preparation.
  • Assists with year-end audits.
  • Process, file and oversees U.S. and Canadian compliance with Federal, State, Provincial, Local and other jurisdiction taxes. Analyze the fourth quarter taxes for additional EFT transfer of funds.
  • Provides on-site training and attend Webinar training when to applicable Payroll staff.
  • Acts as liaison with the payroll service bureaus and completes new employer tax registrations.
  • Reviews tax jurisdictions on a quarterly basis to ensure compliance in various state/localities.
  • Coordinates Benefits and HR related payroll and reporting. 
  • Reviews payroll general ledger reconciliations for discrepancies.
  • Processes monthly Pension Payroll Premium.
  • Oversees the purging and scanning of payroll related files.
  • Creates and analyzes 401K series report to verify the status of limits of the employees.
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • 5 years of advanced accounting experience or 2-year Accounting degree and experience equal to 5-7 years of payroll experience.
  • Experience with various computerized accounting system applications.
  • Recent supervisory experience that includes the ability to move work until it is done.
  • Knowledge of U.S. and Canadian payroll tax regulations.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are a must.
  • Strong spreadsheet experience and strong quantitative skills.
Desired:
  • C.P.A.
  • Experience with non-profit organizations.
Compensation:        
  • Salary commensurate with experience.
