Required: At a minimum, all applicants must be U.S. citizens, who must already possess current TOP SECRET clearances, have been determined to be SCI eligible, and must previously have passed a CI polygraph. Applicants must undergo additional security processing which includes submitting updated security packages and successfully undergo full scope polygraph examinations. The security process requires a few months and sometimes longer. At a minimum, all applicants also must demonstrate Level 3 General Professional or higher Chinese-English language proficiency measured in accordance with the Interagency Language Roundtable scale and as tested by ALTA, LLE, CLCI or Inlingua. Upon successful completion of global language proficiency testing, they must then successfully undergo transcription, translation, and interpretation job skills testing to demonstrate their ability to apply their Level 3 or higher proficiency to perform these particular linguist job tasks at Level 3. Must have a BA/BS and 3-5 years of related work experience; if no degree, over 5 years of related work experience is required. Must have at least 3 years experience working this mission; those who do not meet the minimum experience requirement will be considered as Primary Linguists. Must be able and willing to travel within CONUS and abroad upon request.
Able to perform full range of activities in processing foreign language material requiring advanced professional capability (4-4+ on ILR scale). Strong area/country knowledge (including cultural/political/economic issues) where Chinese is spoken. Familiarity and research experience with Chinese Internet vernacular. Ability to recognize significant developments based on customer requirements. Meets linguistic qualifications of Senior Linguist as defined by customer. Ability to manage competing priorities. Able to produce concise, pertinent, synthesized research information into professional, grammatically correct, idiomatic English reports that also consider cultural overtones; these reports require minimal editing and include only minor research/collection mistakes or omissions. Ability to effectively evaluate work of junior colleagues and peers in areas beyond linguist's particular language and country knowledge. Capable of providing "camera-ready" translations for dissemination. Demonstrated interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively in team environment. Strong computer skills, including use of MS Office and the Internet.
Desired: Previous experience conducting topical/thematic vernacular open source Internet research. Expertise regarding Chinese domestic politics, military matters, science and technology. Knowledge of U.S. Intelligence Community, military, and/or law enforcement. Linguist/Researchers who are proficient in multiple languages are strongly desired.
